Assignment for the New Year: Choose to Be Happy!

Written by Braiden on January 2, 2012

As we look forward to the New Year, here are some wise words from Pamela Jett, Certified Speaking Professional, that will enlighten and enrich 2012 for all of us.

“Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.” – Henry James

I challenge you to choose an attitude that will yield positive and productive results in your life. Get up every morning and make a conscious decision that you are “having a good day” or that you “choose to be happy.”

Literally say it to yourself, out loud or in your head, “I’m having a good day today. I choose to be happy.”

Most of us don’t get up in the morning and intentionally choose misery. We simply stay neutral and see what the day brings. That’s called being a victim of circumstances.

If you have ever been in a bad mood, you know that’s about the time when everyone and everything gets on your nerves. You are the least patient, the least flexible, and the least likely to use the communication tools that will help you succeed.

Do something amazing for yourself. Make a conscious, proactive choice every day regarding the attitude you will embrace for that day. Increase your communication effectiveness: “Choose to be happy!”
